EMG publishing house is proud to announce the re-release of Irek Grin’s book „Out of Anger”.
„Out of Anger” is a story about Maks, a Hasidic prince born in 1920, a Jewish boy who wanted to be a Pole, and about Frank from the mill, his Polish friend, who decided to become a Jew. This is the story of Poland and Krakow. Tangled story – like stories usually are.
Almost 17 years after the premiere, Irek Grin decided to reread his novel „Out of Anger”. Since the first edition of this book, many extremely important publications on Jewish topics, anti-Semitism, and the tragic history of the neighborhood of the Polish and Jewish nations have appeared in Poland. These books – scientific, reportage, diary, popular science – changed a lot in the minds of the Polish readers and did a lot of good. Interestingly, among the large number of publications, there were relatively few novels, as if the weight of the „Jewish topic” did not allow the creation of fiction, as if it forced us to constantly supplement the „true” information, as if every even the tiniest fact hidden so far had to be told and provided with a footnote. This, of course, is understandable when you want to recall each of the many millions murdered, but fiction, in the case of „Out of Anger” preceded by a five-year query, also has a lot to offer. It can inspire, it does not limit its intuition, it can be ambiguous and multi-threaded, and creatively uses understatements. In other words – it is a suitable form for talking about impossible situations. Perhaps „Out of Anger”, already known from the perspective of advanced scientific research and detailed studies, will be read a bit differently than at the beginning of this century.
